An adaptation of a book by Donald Goines, the author of the late Tupac Shakur referred to as his "father figure" in the song "All Eyez on Me," the motion picture will detail the rise of one crimelord from street thug to that of a professional gangster. Other artists coming out for the "Gangster" soundtrack include Mic Geronimo, The Life (formerly Thug Life), Ja-Rule and Darcsyde. The film and accompanying album are due to be released sometime in the late-winter or early-spring of next year.

Rappers Method Man of the Wu-Tang Clan and Daz Dillinger of Tha Dogg Pound are among the artists who helped Heltah Skeltah record the follow-up to the hip-hop outfit's 1996 debut "Nocturnal." Group members Ruck and Rock will release their sophomore effort, "Magnum Force," on October 13. The first single from the album, "I Ain't Havin' That," was produced by Cuzin Bawb and Starang Wondah (O.G.C.) and uses the same beat as the Tribe Called Quest classic "Hot Sex" with the addition of an unmistakable Redman loop. Method Man turns up on a track called "Gunz 'N Onez," while the late Tupac Shakur's clique, The Outlawz, appear on a song called "M.F.C. Lawz." Of course, the rest of the Boot Camp Click appears on the posse cut "Gang's All Here" and the album also features a skit called "Call Tyrone," a tongue-in-cheek answer to Erykah Badu's mega-hit "Tyrone."

Snoop Dogg reclaimed his position on top of the music pound this week with his first record for Master P's No Limit label, "Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told," debuting at number 1 on the pop album charts, usurping the Beastie Boys' super disco breakin' hold on the top spot. Hugz Boss (me) not really caring much for either album.
Def Squad's Keith Murray recently suffered a loss in his legal battle to keep out of jail for hitting a fan. On Wednesday, Judge James Graham denied the motion to reduce the rapper's sentence of five years in jail, suspended after three, and three years probation for second degree assault. The original verdict, which has since been appealed, was rendered in Connecticut's New Britain Superior Court back in January of 1997. It was handed down after Murray was found guilty of hitting a teenage fan, David Hughes, over the head with a metal bar stool during a brawl in 1995. On Wednesday, the rapper's lawyer filed for certification from the Supreme Court after the sentence was upheld, and Murray and his lawyer are currently awaiting their decision. The Supreme Court's ruling is expected to be handed down within the next several weeks.
