Can the No. 1 soul brother hold it down without CL?, any doubters should be slapped right now. Originally enjoying a production deal with Elektra that saw nothing being released got Pete signed to Loud and it was his wisest move yet. Being signed to this label has given him access to a whole range of emcees and artists and that includes Half of the Wu. It can't be ignored that the srtists from the wu camp have been recruited to his benefit. You all know 'Tru master' by now featuring Deck, but other wu associated cuts like the Meth driven 'Half man, half amazing' (Co produced by Rob O) and 'The game' featuring Rae and Ghost prove that Pete Rock is a producer who can adapt to the wu style and become a force to be reckoned with. Think he can't hold it down lyrically?, think again like on the afore mentioned 'The game' he just slaps you up your head as he can hold it down with The cuban linx brothers and Mobb deeps prodigy. Theres a coupla remakes on here, just check 'Truly Yours 98' (Nore was supposed to get hold of this but pete rock beat him to it thank god) which features Extra P and the original creator of the track, Kool G Rap, Ill combination. Other highlights include the track with Common, Noreaga and Big Pun and the Rebirth of Carl Macintoshs Loose ends to add that little extra to one of thetracks. So you think Pete has changed his sound since hes signed to Loud?, think again, he displays that softer edge we all know and love on the title track with Miss jones proving him smoother than ever over this beat that makes you wanna reminisce. After some very very very dope production on other artists music Pete Rock has done more than prove himself as one of the Premier Producers up there with Rza, Primo and Dr Dre, hes gotten even better with age improving lyrically as he goes, and the album is given that finsihing touch of Him and CL back on atrack together, you can't beat it. Lets hope these guys get together for another album cos with Quest going their seperate ways this unification would make upfor things.
