Superwoman |
Artist: Lil' Mo |
|
No, this isn't a remake of the Karyn White classic. Unlike Mrs. White, Missy protégé' Lil Mo is professing that she is truly a superwoman. Some of the superhero references seem corny, but it immediately grows to something tolerable and the tightness of the song prevails. The beat is similar to Beanie Sigel's "Stop, Chill" which will have both the thugs and the ladies bumping this banger.

It's Over Now |
Artist: 112 |
|
Nothing much can be said about 112 since they usually bring the same dish to the table when it comes to singles. That can also be said for this track. Nothing good, nothing bad. It's just...a song.

Mad Flava |
Artist: Fatboy Slim |
|
Every Fatboy Slim joint I've heard has had a cool dance-ish, funky vibe. This joint is no different. The beats are well constructed and the samples well placed. Not every Hip Hop head's favourite joint maybe, but they'd have to be pretty closed minded not to every qualify it with a listen.

Speechless |
Artist: Musiq Soulchild |
|
Neo-soul lovers are going to eat this one up. The vibe is real smooth and
chill, reminiscent of current soulsters like D'Angelo and Jill Scott, with a
little sprinkle of hip-hop. Musiq is definitely one to watch in a genre
that's been suffering a bit lately.

By Your Side (Neptunes Remix) |
Artist: Sade |
|
No, No, NO!!!! You don't disrespect a Sade song by stripping if of its soul
and putting hip-hop beats to it. Especially if its the Neptunes. Something
just seems criminal about the whole thing. What was Sade thinking? Did the
Neptunes pay her instead of her paying them? Is this a sad attempt of
capturing the youth who are not too familar with her? Who the fuck knows.
Either way, it's not right.

Loves U Not (Remix) |
Artist: Dream |
|
Whoa, is that Puff Daddy ad-libing in the background?? Indeed it it is!!
Dream is Puffy's female answer to the boy bands that have caused a fever
across the globe. The girls come of more R&B then pop as they sing over the
Def Squad "Full Cooperation" beat. This song really doesn't showcase what
these girls have to offer, but more of an appetizer of what's on the way
from the ladies.

Thief Party |
Artist: Sporty Thievz |
|
Sporty Thievz aren't known for quality, they're basically one hit wonders. The "thievz" have just dropped this new joint as something to be played in clubs. I sure hope that they don't end up having this happen. The track has the Sporty people rhyming and singing over various previously used beats, which are much more suited to their original tracks. The track disses women in a lame manner and is best left on store shelves. This track gets 3/10 for its beats.

No More (Cuban Linx 2000 Remix)1 / No More (South Central Remix)2 |
Artist: Ruff Endz ft. Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Cam'Ron & Puerto Rock |
|
The original 'No More' was nice, but these remixes aren't too bad either. The 'Cuban Linx 2000' remix is nice, Ghost and Rae contribute some fitting rhymes to this Rn'b group Ruff Endz' joint. They manage to keep the vibe consistent and add something to the track. The 'South Central Remix' isn't as good. Why? Well Cam'Ron and the emcee I loathe, Puerto Rock are on it. Take my advice, check the Cuban Linx 2000 remix.

| Ya'll Stay Up |
Artist: Youngblood Brass Band ft. Talib Kweli |
|
This joint won a competition judged by various well known Hip Hop artists. The track features the Youngblood Brass Band creating a very fitting beat which enhances the atmosphere that surrounds what Kweli's rhyming about. Now it's Kweli rhyming so you know it's nice, the hook could have been left off though.

Peace |
Artist: Youngblood Brass Band ft. Mike Ladd |
|
Not quite knowing what to expect I threw on Youngblood Brass Band's CD on. Youngblood Brass Band are as their name implies, a young brass band. Except they play Jazz/Hip Hop themed music with their brass instruments, and do some covers of some well known Hip Hop beats. This is one of their completely original joints featuring the spoken word poetry of the one and only Mike Ladd. In my opinion this is dope shit, very much worth peeping, if you're interested in music. Without a doubt this won't be everybody's thing, but if it is email youngblooded@juno.com to purchase a copy of this alternative styled album for yourself.

Every Nite Of The Summer |
Artist: Black Ice ft. XL & Ghostface Killah |
|
Well, hmmmmmmm. What is there to say about a track which feels like it's been done many times before? The beat is okay, but the singing and rhymes feel very unoriginal and I'd prefer hearing a Boyz II Men cut and Ghostface and XL rhyming on separate tracks. Average material.

Getcha Groove On |
Artist: Limp Bizkit ft. Xzibit |
|
Fred Durst should stick to singing, or whatever you would describe his vocal emitions as. His rhymes are very unconvincing and simplistic at best. The hook, which he does would be considerably better if everything after and including "I'm a real motherfucker from around the way" was removed. Xzibit comes off alright, but by no means as good as we have heard he can. This joint is okay, but really nothing special.

Rollin' (Urban Assault Vehicle) |
Artist: Limp Bizkit ft. DMX, Method Man & Redman |
|
Swizz Beats laced a nice beat here, but for some reason I'm not feeling the whole joint as much as everyone else seems to. Unfortunately I think that the joint would have been considerably better had the owners of the cut not owned it. What do I mean ? Remove Limp Bizkit and have a hype cut with DMX, Meth and Red. As it stands it's a hype joint with a lot of enthusiasm within it. The rhymes aren't great lyrically, but because of the intense energy behind them, the joints are enjoyable. Worth checking, but don't expect lyrical wonders.

Your Child (Remix) |
Artist: Mary J. Blige ft. Ghostface Killah |
|
We've heard Mary J. Blige collaborate with god knows how many rappers on remixes and proper tracks many times. I can't actually recall one collabo she was involved in that I disliked. Now, with Ghost added onto 'Your Child' for a remix, we find ourselves in the same state that I've just stated. Mary is a great singer, and with a dope beat sitting beneath her voice and Ghost's verse, we have ourselves a cool joint.

Ghetto Celebrity |
Artist: Roni Size ft. Method Man |
|
You don't know Roni Size? Poor you. Roni Size is a dope dance-cut producer, he laces dope beats with drum n bass influences and fast paces. Included here we have Method Man rhyming. Meth comes off nicely as per usual above Size's beat. If you're open to this style of music (which I am) you'll find this track enjoyable.

Summertime |
Artist: Soul For Real ft. Big Scoob |
|
A fairly underground release here, from a pretty popular rn'b group. Soul For Real come fairly averagely with their lyrics and singing here, unfortunately, and though Scoob tries, he doesn't quite impress me that much on this joint. My boy Celph Titled co-produced this, and though the beat isn't the best he's been involved with, it's not bad. Basically 'Summertime' is a pretty average joint.

Love Rain (Remix) |
Artist: Jill Scott ft. Mos Def |
|
Jill Scott is the latest female to be compared to D'angelo in the Nu Classic soul style, I checked the album and personally I thought it didn't have enough lasting impact. This latest remix from the album improves on the original adding an even more mellow vibe and getting that guy whats his name? Uh Mos Def. Nice combination, nice track, could've been awesome though

Artist: Kenny Rogers ft. Wyclef Jean & Pharoahe Monch |
|
WTF? Yeah Kenny 'Old grey crooner' Rogers with Clef and Monch?. Yeah you better believe it as you may have caught a clip of this on Wyclefs new album the full track surfaced on a dub plate about a month ago. With the 'Simon Says' beat given a clef rocking it's a novelty at first but as with all novelties it wears off.

Don't Think I'm Not (Remix) |
Artist: Kandi |
|
OK as I am not allowed out because the site takes so much time I heard from the kids that this is 'tearing it up in the clubs'. Not a bad track but for some reason the hip hop remix takes a more subdued route than the uptempo and slow original. Hmmm it wouldn't get me up on the dancefloor, wheres that Kenny Rogers track again?

Can't Be Messing Around |
Artist: Craig David |

Prepare to be blown away by this guy. The Craig David wave may not have hit Stateside yet but believe me its coming soon, so get on board now and be smug when your friends pick up on it in a few months. A totally original artist in singing style hits us with another track from his debut album 'Born 2 do it' and this is prolly my favorite song from there. Straight RNB, with a nod to Sisqo, what more is there to say?
