Feelin' That |
Artist: Mountain Brothers & Name |
|
The B-Side to the Grand Agent 'Service The Target' 12" is in essence, dope. "Name" I don't recognize, but I've probably heard him before. He comes off well, and as you can guess (if you've heard any previous Mountain Brothers) material, the MB's come correct. I wish they'd hurry up and hit us with another album. The beat creates a very cool, relaxed vibe and the hook works nicely. Definitely pick up this 12".

That's Not Hot |
Artist: KRS-One |

Whoa!! KRS-One is angry again. And we all know how tight he is when he's angry. The beat adds fury to this fire. Got damn!! This man is scary!!

Jackin' For Jay-Z (Be A Gentleman) |
Artist: 50 Cent |
|
A lot of people have been hating on this track, because 50 keeps naming names to up his career. But I like this track. It flows very well and has a great Christmassy feel to it with the beat being an altered Christmas Carol's music. The hook also follows the same flow except the words are altered. The rhymes aren't too bad either. But dissing Jay doesn't seem like the right thing to do considering how much Jay could rip him.

Stayin' Alive |
Artist: Super Double (Braille & Johnny 5) |
|
This track will not be reviewed. Why? Well, I'd be way too biased to give this an accurate score. Listen to the joint to find out why, definitely some dope shit for tha-real.com.

Cold Minds |
Artist: Severe Testimony |
|
For some reason, this reminds me slightly of a Detect track. Why? Well the first emcee's flow seems similar to Detect's on one of his LP's track's. Anyway, the lyrics aren't too bad and the flows are quite good. The beat is simplistic, but serves its purpose. The second emcee shines the most here. Not a bad track. A "grower."

Gotta Be Thug |
Artist: Fabulous |
|
it's easy to get sales if you're down with Flex or Clue. But, the emcee doesn't always match their exposure level. This joint has some pretty simplistic rhymes, and a hook which has been done in so many ways, so many times before...which always makes me cringe. The beat isn't too great either.

Me And My Man1/ Love (A Thing Of The Past)2 |
Artist: Jay Dee Presents Frank N Dank |
|
Every once in awhile a song comes along that puts weird little expressions on my face. 'Me and My Man' is such a song. I'm pretty sure it will do the same to you as Frank N Dank kick very, very, very, simplen and plain rhymes. Frank's verse sounds like it was freestyled. Let's just hope it was. 'Love' is much more tolerable and leaves a better first impression.

Instructions1/ Tampa International2 / Tampa International (Remix)3 |
Artist: Funkghost ft. Celph Titled |
|
Celph hooked me up with the 'Tampa International' (Remix) a while back, and I wasn't feeling it nearly as much then as I am now. I'm not sure if anything was changed before its release, but to my ears it definitely sounds different, and better. 'Instructions' is on a very laid back, mellow vibe. It works well at creating the mood it obviously intended to. The beat feels good, and the pace of the rhymes and construction of the hook work nicely. 'Tampa International' has an intruiging beat, which causes interest and the rhymes match up nicely to that beat to keep you interested. The remix, which as I mentioned, I'd heard before has a very different vibe to the original. The music and hook are different, plus Celph comes in for a verse (different to his usual style). Funkghost perform well here and have assembled a nice 12"

Theme Of New York1/ The Co-Signing2 |
Artist: Ali Vegas ft. AZ |
|
Let the Nas comparisions begin!! Just like Nas, young Vegas comes through with his own tale of New York. He even sings on the track in Nas-esque fashion. Don't let that discourage you from listening. 'The Co-Signing' is the tightest of the two. Thumping beat, and thumping lyrics from AZ. One problem though...The shit is only 2 minutes!!! What a shame. Hopefully
they'll extend this joing come release time.

The Second Coming1/ We Live This2 |
Artist: Nas / Mobb Deep, Big Noyd & Roxanne Shante |
|
'The Second Coming.' Stare at that title for awhile. Listen to the track, and stare at those words. You feel it? Nas is definitely feeling it. It's a relief to hear Nas getting back to the emcee we grew to love. 'We Live This' is tight in its own right too. A simple old school loop makes for a smooth hip-hop joint. Smoke something.
