Oops... |
Artist: Masters Of The Universe ft. Shannon Swain |
|
This track was recorded in July, but won't surface until next year. The hook, done by Shannon Swain is a parody of Britney Spears' 'Oops...I did it Again' chorus. The rhymes are nice, well flowed and the lyrical content is appropriate to the song's theme. There's even some comedic lines scattered around. The beat is nicely formed too, sampling the smash pop hit. Not a bad joint.

Self Conscience |
Artist: Prodigy & Nas |
|
This is the joint that everybody and their mother is raving about from the 'QB's Finest' album. The beat's nice and the rhymes aren't bad either. Nas and Prodigy drop some rhymes relating to their self conscience's. It's a good concept, well performed and nicely done.

Timeless (On & On) |
Artist: D.V. Alias Khrist |
|
DV and Nate Dogg have two of the dopest voices in Hip Hop. Cognito of Mass Influence comes in here to drop a verse, and does an okay job of it. The melodic beat works nicely, and as per usual DV takes the mic and has a nice little play with it. This joint's quite good.

J-A-Z-O |
Artist: Jaz-O |
|
From the man that brought us 'Hawaiin Sophie,' 1/2 of Jay-Z's "Jigga What, Jigga who" & HELL, Jaz himself returns with "J-A-Z-O." I have no clue who did this beat, but I'm definitely feelin' it, on some NY crime shit. He's got some shit, not fuckin' with Jay-Z but he flows better than Sauce Money with not as good lyrics. I'm only wondering if the new jacks that don't know that this is Hova's right hand man are gonna think he's bitin' his name. Over all it's an o.k. song nothing spectacular, but definitely not wack.

Game Over |
Artist: Ras Kass |
|
Okay, this is the teaser joint right? This one is just to let us know he's back right? Well, my interest is officially piqued. This is nothing amazing, the beat I mean. But of course the lyrics are...just give this a listen please. The brother is still dope as ever, and still as frustrated as ever (with the industry and the wack MC). Trying to pick a quote would be futile. There are just too many of 'em. Well...peep the line about the Staple Center and Ras jogging backward while "pointing at Spike Lee". Reminded me of Pat Ewing in his day (sniff). Anyways...this track is okay. Its not his best work ever, but its far from his worse. If this is just supposed to be a warning shot then maybe 'Van Gogh' will be all we've prayed it will be. If this is supposed to be the album's Cruise missile, well...it misses. It remains to be seen. Can't wait to see though.

Get It Up (Remix) |
Artist: Sticky Fingaz ft. Xzibit, Method Man & Redman |
|
The cocky and talented emcee that is Sticky Fingaz is continuing promoting 'Black Trash' with the remix to 'Get It Up.' As per usual Sticky comes off enthusiastically, the hook, which works well slots in nicely as Xzibit comes off as per usual and Red and Meth do their thing. Nice remix.

Suicidal Failure1/ The Weather Report2 / Dust vs Ecstasy3 |
Artist: Cage ft. Copywrite |
|
Cage, Cage, Cage. Eminem fans will cry, but I'm pretty sure Eminem took his style from Cage. Cage was doing it before Em, but anyway. 'Suicidal Failure' is brilliant. Though initially the hook feels unnecessary, it slots in beautifully. The lyrics are well written, and funny in a sort of sick style. The beat works really well behind Cage's vocals, and basically all factors combine to form a real dope cut. 'The Weather Report' has been floating around for a little while. Both Cage and my boy, Copywrite do their thing to a real nice level. 'Dust vs Ecstasy' is my least favourite joint on the 12", but with that said it's still worth checking. It grows on you considerably, the rhymes are on Cage's usual vibe and basically it ends the 12" track selection nicely. This 12" is the best I've heard recently, pick it up.

Thug Out |
Artist: Severe & Royce 5'9 |
|
One thing that anyone would say after hearing this song is, "When is Royce dropping!?" For any Royce fan this is a gem but the Bronx representing Severe really can not keep up with Royce's lyrical onslaught on this Detroit and Boogie Down collabo. With Mr. 5'9 dropping lines like..."I rhyme for Guiness / Rhymes is endless / Write a rhyme a minute to a rhyme only times infinite" "Guns uncoiled, destroy you / To the point where boyz who used to get blunted with you get blunted for you"..."I done spent more time in a cypher then niggas spent time in Rikers / Then niggas spent time in a diaper." Unfortunately because of a weak, but not horrible hook, it's too
difficult to award it more than a 6.5.

I really can't see how these guys can continue to make tracks like these replying to women looking as good as Destiny's Child, and over subjects which there's no point to "reply" to. They're replying to a song about women boasting about being self reliant, what's to diss that for? The track is a nice little alternate copy, but was more than just pointless. It's sad that these guys have made themselves known by replying to tracks by rn'b singers. Haha. I'd avoid this on principle, but it isn't too bad music.

Listen1/ It Will2 / All Day3 / Living Legends4 |
Artist: Mind Clouders / Murs |
|
"Listen" is the illest of the 12" the beat is more aggressive & I'm feelin' his wordplay much more on this one. "It will" left me wondering if Erick Sermon produced it. I definitely wasn't feeling this, I would go on but I turned it off after the first verse. Here I am sitting with this Murs song, "All Day" which sports a Posdanous sample and an upbeat samba loop, kind of reminiscant of Self Scientific's "Return," only not half as ill. I see where he's coming from with his rhymes & he definitely has skills, but to be honest this song did not impress me much at all. Maybe that I've heard so much shit built up about this kid, I was expecting so much more, anyway I wouldn't pay money for this, or listen to it for free. "Living Legends" is cool, not dope, not wack. I'm sure his friends liked the song, but he's not makin' any new fans this way. Anyway if your a fan of Mind Clouders, Murs or the Living Legends crew, you'll probably feel it, if your a first time listener chances are you'll be bored.
